Westmark, the developer of Cooper’s Crossing, made a request to name an athletic park in recognition of Ed Eggerer. This was approved by City Council and a dedication ceremony was held on July 1, 2014.

Westmark & McKee Homes partnered to donate an announcer’s box called “Ed’s Perch” at the Ed Eggerer Athletic Park a City of Airdrie recreational facility. This will be a legacy from the 2014 Alberta Summer Games which will be held July 24 – 27, 2014.

About Ed Eggerer:

He served as a President of the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Calgary Stampede Visiting Band committee and a director on the Airdrie Housing Ltd. board. Ed was a founding member of the George McDougall High School S.O.S. Society, the Airdrie Rotary Club and Airdrie Bethany Care Centre. These organizations have greatly benefited Airdrie and will continue to do so long into the future.

Ed always loved to get involved and make a difference in the community. Be it raising funds for high school football, band equipment or uniforms, refereeing volleyball and basketball, developing a tennis society, serving as a returning officer for elections or serving on a United Nations delegation in Cambodia, no job was too big or too small. He would just roll up his sleeves and make it happen.

Giving back to the community was a way of life for Ed. He has a long and impressive resume because of his commitment to volunteerism, philanthropy and leadership and he has contributed significantly to the development of Airdrie as we know it today. It seemed only fitting to recommend that a City facility be named as an ongoing reminder of his legacy.

Ed’s strong interest and involvement with community sports made naming this facility the “Ed Eggerer Athletic Park” a wonderful fit. It is our hope that it will remind people of Ed’s exemplary approach to community service and to inspire those in the community to follow his example.
